Cantigny Winter Wonderland Photography

As I write this I reflect on yesterday, Friday, February 24, 2012. What a day it was here in the Chicago Suburbs, specifically at Cantigny Park and Gardens in Wheaton, IL. The ground and trees were painted by a magnificent layer of snow that was a dream for me. I kept hoping for that perfect snowfall to go out and capture photos but it just had not happened until yesterday.

Besides the snowfall, this is my second photo project where I am shooting in RAW format. I should have been doing this for quite a while but we do learn from our mistakes and move on. I know I will be shooting in RAW all of the time going forward.

My camera for this trip is a Pentax K-7 with a standard 18-55 zoom lens ISO 100. I was ready for the day.

The images posted below went through a couple, few rounds of edits. Since I don’t have Adobe Lightroom (yet) I used Photoshop Elements and tweaked them. Each image will be followed by edits using Smart Photo Editor using multiple filters. I like the effects created so far. I feel I could have made them even more interesting if I spent more time on them, but I just don’t have that kind of time today. So let’s get started with the image presentations.

It was great to get out and take these scenic snow photos and just as much fun editing them. I must confess, I was a little disappointed with the lack of snowfall here in Chicago this season. I'll tell you this though, yesterday made up for it.
